The main goal of Microlepidoptera.nl is to provide information concerning microlepidoptera in the Netherlands.
The website aims to provide each species with a detailed description, combined with distribution maps, graphs and pictures of set speciments as well as pictures of each life cycle. Please note that the website Microlepidoptera.nl is constantly adding information and improving its content. At this date, the website only features one third of the total number of species inhabiting The Netherlands.
The Microlepidoptera.nl team is composed by several, in particular Dutch, amature as well as professional entomologists. All information is written and owned by these authors. Microlepidoptera.nl is not responsible for any errorneous content. The authors of the specific texts are copyright owner and responsible for the content of the texts. Although content is written with great care, errors may still occur. In case of errorenous information, please contact the specific author of the text. There is a contact link in the right bottom of each species page.
Pictures of the species are featured only if the specific species has been identified with certainty by specialists.
In some cases, the specimen on the pictures has been added to a collection. In this case, the specific code is featured below the picture. At this stage, this information is not complete but will be in the near future. If you believe a picture might be wrong, please contact us.
Please note that microlepidoptera species are very difficult to identify, and that most species cannot be identified using picture information only. Often, for a certain determination one must examine determination characterisics such as antennae, palpes, legs and colour of the underwing. This may not always be visible on pictures. Genital examination is often needed to confirm the identity of the moth. We are currently working on more identification help which includes genital plates.
Due to the difficulty of identifying moths based on pictures, and possible misdeterminations on this site, identifying micro moths using this site is on your own risk. Microlepidoptera.nl is not responsible for any damage resulting from misidentification.
